Choosing hitch size
Hitches are primarily sized by HP rating. A range of
hitch sizes are available with increasing power and lift
capacities. It is first suggested to choose a
hitch that "matches" tractor (PTO) HP. This provides an
"all-purpose" hitch with maximum capability and
performance for that tractor model. A matching hitch
size for blading/dozer work or cultivating/tillage work
is recommended.
To perform only one job, or "special-purpose" work,
particularly a tool that is only carried and does not
require pushing by the tractor, a smaller hitch may be
installed on a bigger tractor. Do not choose an undersized hitch to save a dollar.
Hitch lift capacity is one way to compare hitch models or
different brands with each other, but is not as helpful
to apply the hitch to the job. Front implements may only
weight 1000 or 2000 lbs, for example, but more
capability is for lifting and pushing.

installation of more than one hitch size.
